Enquiry

If you’d like to propose an event or initiative for Palmerston North City Council’s Sponsorship Fund, we’d love to hear from you. Please note this is an expression of interest, not a formal grant application; we’ll review your enquiry and, if suitable, invite you to complete the full online application.

What we’re looking for
Council prioritises initiatives that:
• Align with Goal One and are innovative in approach.
• Are of regional or national significance and promote Palmerston North positively.
• Deliver measurable economic benefit—especially through out-of-town visitation and overnight stays.
• Enhance city profile, create leverage opportunities and/or leave a positive legacy for Palmerston North.

How it works
If your enquiry progresses, you’ll be invited to submit a full application via SmartyGrants at least two months before your event or activity begins, including a budget, other funding sources, and a marketing plan. Applications are assessed on deliverability, alignment with priorities, economic benefit to the city, and the strength of your financial plan (Council funding should not be the sole source).

Successful applicants will enter into a funding agreement and must submit a post-funding report within two months of completion, detailing outcomes, attendance/visitor data, spending, and any media coverage.

A number of exclusions apply. These are identified in council's Support and Funding Policy
